- About the program:
The Yemeni constitution guarantees everyone's right to education, regardless of gender, and emphasizes the importance of compulsory basic education. The war, however, smashed the horizon of education like a hammer. There has been destruction of schools and many have been used as military barracks and shelters for the displaced. However, most schools have closed their doors due to the conflict. in addition, there is no compensation for teachers, and many children are recruited as child soldiers. Millions of children and youth are deprived of their right to education. This has had a devastating impact on the future of Yemen.
The “Step Forward” project aims to try to resuscitate the heart of a rural school in an attempt to push it to enter the acceptable level and possess the minimum necessary ingredients to receive its students, who are constantly increasing. This is done by improving the school environment and providing the basic needs for work continuation. While, through repeated field trips to the complex, and from the various people involved in the follow-up, everyone noted the need to provide school chairs, because there are approximately seven different educational stages and more than 600 students sit on the floor to receive educational material.
